WORLD BANK GROUP YOUTH SUMMIT 2022: UNLOCKING THE POWER OF INCLUSION FOR EQUITABLE GROWTH
The theme for the World Bank Group Youth Summit 2022 is “Unlocking the Power of Inclusion for Equitable Growth”, with activities and engagements in different regions and at the World Bank Group headquarters in Washington DC. This is a Hybrid (Online and Washington DC) program:
COVID-19 has halted years of global development progress and exacerbated inequalities in education, health, income, and opportunity access. The pandemic’s impact on the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people has been particularly catastrophic. About 97 million more people are living in poverty because of COVID-19, and the loss in human capital wealth globally due to gender inequality is estimated at $160.2 trillion.
In the post-COVID era, the concept of inclusive growth has emerged as a fundamental topic motivating talks on recovery and growth. The outcome of COP26 has only served to emphasize the necessity for a comprehensive plan and action.
The 2022 Summit will look at the many concerns that the global community is facing, and the role of youth in overcoming these issues. The Summit will bring together young people from over the world to brainstorm new ideas and solutions. This is to ensure that recovery and progress in the post-COVID world is not only equitable and sustainable, but also inclusive on social, environmental, and economic levels.
Discussions and activities during the world bank youth Summit will focus on solutions that foster:
- It is vital for equitable growth to increase chances for everyone, particularly the underprivileged, to participate fully in markets, services, technologies, and society.
- Economic inclusion by providing inclusive, equitable access to economic opportunity is critical to sustainable global development by building green, resilient communities, fostering inclusive green growth, and ensuring no communities are left behind in the fight against environmental degradation and climate change.
WHY DOES THIS SUMMIT MATTER?
The World Bank Group’s crisis response has aided countries in saving lives and livelihoods threatened by COVID-19, as well as laying the groundwork for a long-term and stable recovery in a world changed by the epidemic. This year’s Youth Summit connects itself with the innovative approach to development defined by the United Nations by investigating the inclusion component of social, environmental, and economic solutions for development the Green, Resilient and Inclusive Development (GRID) framework while highlighting the driving force of youth to lead development and equitable growth.
During the IMF-WBG 2021 Annual Spring Meetings, the GRID framework was launched to promote the connection between People, Economy, and Planet and ‘to encourage economic growth that goes hand in hand with environmental goals and inclusivity.’
The Summit is a gathering of young people from around the world.
The World Bank Group’s Youth Summit, which began in 2013, is an annual event that brings together young people from around the world to discuss the most serious challenges affecting their generation. The Youth Summit is a sister organization to the Youth Summit Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) network, a multifaceted network of young professionals dedicated to engaging, inspiring, and empowering young people in global development., which aims to inspire and empower youth within and outside the institution.
The principal goals of the World Bank Group’s annual Youth Summit, are to:
