Empower Her: Call for proposals advancing women energy entrepreneurs.

DEADLINE: 08 April 2022

Empower Her: Call for proposals advancing women energy entrepreneurs.

The Climate Investment Platform (CIP) – a partnership of UNDP, IRENA, SEforALL, in coordination with the GCF – intends with the EmPower Her call for proposals to close the financing gap for early-stage clean energy projects in least developed markets, ensuring that they can quickly replicate, and eventually scale, their efforts on the ground.

Under this call for proposals. the CIP will be supporting proposals that present technical innovations, put forward by (majority) women-led organizations or organizations whose main focus is women’s empowerment, that directly enhances the productivity of demand-side users of renewable energy or provide a combination of value-addition and renewable energy generation in a single tool.

Preferably, innovations should show a potential to increase productive capacity for economic niches that are predominantly occupied by women.

Applicants from countries that are LDCs who fall within one of the 3 categories can apply:

  • Private sector developers
  • NGOs
  • Universities and research centers

The best candidates will be able to submit projects proposals that:

  • Demonstrable influence on increased productivity for women-owned businesses, women household entrepreneurs, or other employment transition and/or energy access for women
  • Operate with the intention of being financially self-sustaining
  • Have potential for scale-up and replicability

The CIP looks to bring the project idea to a quality project concept note, including for example initial pre-feasibility studies and potential financial structures and models. Furthermore, the CIP will actively seek engagement with financial partners from the public and private sector, international financial institutions, and donors that potentially could supply funding for project development.

Successful project proponents receive up to $40,000 (USD) to accelerate the preparation of investment readiness, such as business planning, feasibility testing, legal and technical requirement, and then support subsequent investor outreach.
